Hi guys, so if you haven’t yet seen or heard the exiting news yet, Netflix officially launched in South Africa yesterday (6 Jan 2016) and for those if you who don’t know, I’m a series addict so I’m super excited that I was able to jump right onto the band wagon.
What is Netflix? Netflix Inc. is an American worldwide provider of on-demand Internet streaming media. The company was established in 1997 and is headquartered in Los Gatos, California. It started its subscription-based service in 1999. By 2009, Netflix was offering a collection of 100,000 titles on DVD and had surpassed 10 million subscribers. Source Wikipedia.
Netflix offers a one month free trial when you sign up but you do however need to enter credit card or paypal details when signing up, you can cancel your subscription just after completing the sign up and enjoy your free month without the fear of any charged being made. I’ve done some re-search as well and the Netflix content may vary from Netflix in the US from time to time.
The packages available are as follow:
- 1 screen – Watch on 1 screen at a time in Standard Definition.US$7,99/month * Around R128.46
- 2 screens + HD – Watch on 2 screens at a time. HD available.US$9,99/month * Around R160.62
- 4 screens + ULTRA HD – Watch on 4 screens at a time. HD and Ultra HD available.US$11,99/month * Around R192.77
*At exchange rate of R16.08
Personally I opted for the 2 screen package so that hubby and I can enjoy shows together even when we aren’t in the same place and watch different ones when the mood strikes us.
Some shows that are currently on Netflix that I’m really excited about watching includes: How to get away with murder, Sense 8, Continuum and The Returned. I really love how you can automatically continue watching where you stopped watching previously, if I don’t binge watch something I always forget where I watched last.
Netflix can be installed as well on your phone, tablets and can be used from your Playstation and Xbox and Smart TV.
I have a 2MB Uncapped Premium account from Mweb and has been able to thus far stream Netflix without any problems, so there is no need to worry about your internet not being fast enough. Here is to some binge watching!
